Philosophy

Where all children experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life.

At Medowie Community Preschool we provide a warm, caring and safe environment, which promotes children’s wellbeing, development and learning. We believe the family is the child’s first and most significant educator and we endeavor to establish reciprocal relationships with our families built on mutual respect, trust and open communication.

We acknowledge that Medowie Community Preschool stands on the land of the Worimi people and this land continues to be sacred to them. We pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging. We seek to further develop children’s knowledge and understanding of First Nation’s people by exploring Aboriginal perspectives throughout our program.

We view each child as an individual and work collaboratively with families to further educate their children through play-based learning, providing active, thought provoking and meaningful experiences. We encourage each child to be an independent thinker, a problem solver, a creator, and a resourceful learner who is curious about the world around them. We honour children’s voices and value their contributions, viewing them as competent and capable drivers of their learning and development. We also seek to foster an ecological conscience in all children by embedding sustainable practices that they contribute to. By fostering a sense of empathy, wonder and respect, we hope to assist children to become global citizens within their world.

Educators will maintain positive attitudes towards diversity and inclusiveness. They have adopted a progressive approach to Early Childhood Education, and this is achieved by incorporating the principles, practices and learning outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Framework into our daily program. Educators pride themselves on being Early Childhood Professionals who are active researchers. They understand the importance of critically reflecting on their practice, attitudes and current theoretical research. This ensures they are adaptive, respectful and aligned with the current needs of the children, families, and community.
Our philosophy is a living document, considering new research, changes to our preschool and the community, ideas from new team members and input from children and families

Our service aims to ensure that positive working relationships are formed between all staff, families, management and our wider community. Staff and management will always conduct themselves in an ethical manner and strive to make all interactions positive and meaningful. We value their contributions and seek to work in collaboration with them to provide a free medium of exchange which allows us to constantly seek to improve the children’s experience and their learning journey.

Statement of Commitment to Child Safe Standards

All managers, staff and volunteers are committed to implementing the NSW Child Safe Standards. The safety, health and wellbeing of children is the number one priority of all staff and volunteers who understand children’s safety is a shared responsibility. We have zero tolerance for any form of child abuse and are committed to acting in children’s best interests. Our policies and procedures support and inform this commitment, and our leaders and managers regularly review staff and volunteer practices and understanding, prioritising training or taking other relevant action if required.
